Transform LA’s urban landscape into sustainable neighborhoods, one urban farm at a time
Farm Urbana was founded in 2014 by Ruth Meghiddo at Meghiddo Architects, with the vision for cities to become prosperous and sustainable.
We draw from permaculture design the agenda of natural green living and create the urban framework for consciously designed local farming landscapes to provide sustainable and resilient cities. We are keen to incorporate the element of farming into the built environment, connect to nature, and activate local communities around growing fresh food and a healthy lifestyle.
eco-friendly gardens with 90% less water
Ruth’s passion for urban farming began decades earlier, as a student at UCLA. There, she published a pioneering thesis in sustainability, “Agriculture in Urban Environments: City and Farm Romance.” Her background in architecture and urban design inspired her to create edible garden solutions. She became a Certified Permaculture Design Consultant.
share fresh nutritious produce locally
Imagine city rooftops becoming an eco-friendly resource of bountiful vegetable gardens that consume 90% less water, little labor, and a fraction of space and weight of conventional gardens. Imagine the joy and gratitude of creating healthy communities by cultivating, harvesting and sharing fresh, nutritious produce locally.
offer a healthy lifestyle amenity
Here is a brief story of my vision, making the case that urban farming is a growing movement that will tackle the problems the world is facing today.
